Introduction
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Shenzhen Second People’s Hospital adheres to the philosophy of “people-centered care and prioritizing patient health”and the service tenet of “caring for life and providing supreme service.”Guided by the principles of efficiency, speed, and accuracy, the department strictly follows diagnostic and treatment protocols and critical care rescue procedures, offering 24-hour, high-quality emergency medical services.
In collaboration with the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), the department has established the Critical and Emergency Medicine Unit, which implements a specialized model for managing critically ill and emergency patients, providing a robust platform for rapid and efficient treatment. The department currently has 108 staff members and has been recognized with numerous honors, including the“Guangdong Province Advanced Grassroots Party Organization”,“Guangdong Province Women’s Civilized Post”, “Shenzhen Youth Civilization Unit”,“Shenzhen Civilized Demonstration Window”, and “Shenzhen COVID-19 Advanced Collective.”
Structure and Resources
The department encompasses pre-hospital emergency care, emergency resuscitation rooms, trauma units, emergency outpatient clinics, wound care and suturing rooms, observation areas, infusion areas, emergency wards, and an emergency ICU. It has 56 fixed beds, which can be expanded to 90 beds during critical situations.
The department boasts a strong technical team, including 40 physicians (8 with senior titles, 25 with intermediate titles, 4 holding doctoral degrees, and 17 holding master’s degrees), 4 master’s supervisors, and a nursing team comprising 2 chief nurses, 4 deputy chief nurses, 35 nurse practitioners, 22 staff nurses, and 5 auxiliary nurses.
Specialty Services
The Department of Emergency Medicine provides treatment for a wide range of acute and critical conditions, including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular emergencies, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, shock, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome (MODS), acute respiratory failure, multiple trauma, and various types of poisoning. It has established green channels for emergency care in conditions such as critical pregnancy, severe traumatic brain injury, myocardial infarction, acute stroke, and major trauma.
As a key unit for the National Advanced Stroke Center, Guangdong Province Level I Trauma Center, and Guangdong Province Chest Pain Center, the department leads in emergency thrombolysis and thrombectomy for acute stroke in Guangdong. It also houses a dedicated trauma unit, integrating resources to streamline multidisciplinary care for patients with complex trauma.
